Requirements for eligibility
All of the following requirements must be met.
- Expected annual income is less than 1.3 million yen (less than 1.8 million yen if they are aged 60 or over or have a disability)
- Income is less than half that of the dependent (the insured person) if living together, and less than half of the allowance sent by the dependent (the insured person) if living separately
- Employment income is 108,333 yen a month or less and earnings from employment insurance is 3,611 yen a day or less
- The applicable family members do not possess the same status

Not considered as earnings.
How one year is defined
The year-long period starting from the date someone is added as a dependent under social insurance.
Example: If added in June, then June to May of the following year
